This blog shall document my semester abroad, beginning 28 August 2011.
Welcome to Poitiers.
B O O
I hope everyone had a frightfully delightful Halloween! Although the holiday is not so big here as back home, I managed to celebrate quite festively with the other international students. The Americans and Canadians INSISTED that everyone come in costume, which for us in a no-brainer, but Halloween disguisement is apparently construed as optional on other continents.
I had three intentions for my costume: a) spend more time than money making it epic; b) be unrecognizable; and c) look utterly unattractive.
I spent a few days meticulously shredding an old Hanes v-neck (which was done primarily while watching the latest seasons of Entourage and It’s Always Sunny). And Brad so kindly helped me kink up my hair into 30 pins - a fun 2 hour process - thereby creating a frizzy fro only LMFAO’s Redfoo would envy. In total I spent only 14.20€ (tights + hair pins + fake blood). After all the prep, this thing was born:

And at the end of the night, this was left:

Mission. Accomplished.
Elaine, Sam and David found a REAL jack-o-lantern pumpkin at one of the stores outside Poitiers center and carved up a jack-o-lantern for the festivities, as a surprise. I cannot explain the excitement I experienced upon seeing it! Here’s the mime (Elaine) and her masterpiece.

Conveniently, November 1st is a holiday in France, for All Saint’s Day I believe. With an excuse like this, I don’t know why the French don’t go all out for Halloween, seeing as you have an automatic free day the next day. I spent this holiday scrubbing fake blood stains off my face and working on my market research project. If you took my Facebook survey a couple weeks ago, thank you! Your input will help Elaine and I out tomorrow as we present our findings.
Well, back to work then. So much to do and the clock is ticking!
