This blog shall document my semester abroad, beginning 28 August 2011.
Welcome to Poitiers.
Poitiers, un samedi matin
Elaine and I did some shopping this AM at the local farmers’ market. I picked up some fresh tomatoes and apple juice, while Elaine did much more damage. I also witnessed an unidentifiable animal being butchered - guts spilling out and all - just in time for Halloween…. Speaking of which, they finally have pumpkins! But not the typical carving type.
books, if reading in French is your thing
pâtés and rillettes and foie gras
bread - the bigger the better
notice the distance I maintained between this creepy carnival clown and myself
fresh from the earth
watership down
liqueurs in every shade and every taste
escargots — to go
bored little boy, carving pumpkins
It started drizzling as we wandered in search of Poitiers’ munchkin-sized Statue of Liberty.
Found it. What’s up with that flame?

photo-creeping on children — it’s becoming an issue
Then I helped a little old lady get butter off of a high shelf at Monoprix. My good deed for the day.
All this and I was home before noon. Not knowing what to do with myself, I napped. Naturally.
It’s nice to take advantage of what Poitiers has to offer while I can, seeing as I won’t be around here for a good deal of November. October, where have you gone?
