An open letter to the best kind of friend a girl could have.

(the kind that sends canned organic pumpkin in the mail, of course).

My dearest Julia,

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel having received your care package here in France. C’mon, canned pumpkin??! You sure know the way to my heart. Now I am left with the task of determining which pumpkin-centered recipe is worthy of my 15 ounces of Trader Joe’s organic pumpkin purée. I could stay traditional, and bake a pie, but that feels a bit lackluster. Perhaps pancakes, such as the recipe you included in your letter. Pumpkin for breakfast would be nice. Or I could take the savory route and whip up some pumpkin risotto with seared scallops (classic Foodgawker find). Still, there’s a plethora of other mouth-watering pumpkin desserts online. I will know the destiny of my sacred TJ’s canned pumpkin in time.

I intend to reply to your letter directly, via snail mail, because that just seems more fitting than a digital reply. And honestly I don’t know why I decided to make this a public letter. Maybe to summon more care packages over to Poitiers? No, no. (However my address is available upon request.) Regardless, mind the mail for the next week or so, mon amie!

Xs and Os,

Carly

Now, some photo evidence:It’s like Fall, all tied up in a brown paper package.

I’m trying to think if anyone asked me to send anything from France (other than postcards, which I have yet to do - oops!). I think Quinn was the only one, with her request for a French man. Quinn…. I’ll get back to you on that one. Shipping is rather pricey. But then again, it’s a good thing it’s the French we’re dealing with here. Their men tend to be more, er, slender.
