This blog shall document my semester abroad, beginning 28 August 2011.
Welcome to Poitiers.
How could I forget to share the highlight of my (Monday) night…. beer giraffe!! (pictured on the far left, alongside a Canadian, a Brit, and myself.) I was at first a bit perplexed upon seeing these outside Est Ouest, our local hangout, but this confusion was almost instantaneously replaced by a burning desire to get my paws on one —— à la Liz Lemon “I WANT TO GO THERE” …. nevermind. It’s 20 euros and quite a decent amount of beer. We split it among five. Do we have these in the States?? Am I just an ignorant American unaware of what my great country has to offer me, beer-wise?? But no, this couldn’t be.
Today I met a student at ESCEM who was on exchange last semester at USC. He’s in my Advertising in Europe class. We spoke briefly about the differences between Poitiers and LA, ESCEM and USC, but we could have spent the entire afternoon on this subject. Anyway, I think I had asked him what his favorite memory was and without hesitation he replied “ze fountain run!!” (Not joking about the “ze” thing.) And it got me thinking, I actually am excited to be back at SC. I kinda miss having insanity as my norm.
But as I mentioned in the previous post, I’ve now been here for precisely one month. I’ve traveled a bit around France; I’ve eaten way too much fresh bread, stinky cheese, red wine, and sweets; I’ve made friends from more countries than I can count on my navy-polished fingers; and I’ve probably spent way too much money, but I can neither confirm nor deny this at the moment. Here there is a different kind of insanity, now that I think about it. I can deal with that. And I really could not be more eager to discover what the next 2.78571429 months have in store for me before I must head home to the best coast. So until then, LA, you can keep your crazy. I’m content with the variety available here.
